Rang De, a non-profit organisation that extends microcredit to under-served communities, is presenting an evening with film director Nagesh Kukunoor on 10th December at La Makaan. The evening starts with the screening of Nagesh Kukunoor's film Aashayein, followed by an introduction to Rang De, and an animation film on Rang De.
Aashayein is a 2010 Hindi film written and directed by Nagesh Kukunoor, and produced by Percept Picture Company and T-Series. The movie stars John Abraham in the lead role. Sonal Sehgal plays his love interest. Supporting roles are played by Farida Jalal, Girish Karnad and Anahita Nair.
Aashayein is the touching tale of Rahul who is an angry, confused and compulsive gambler. After years of vying for the jackpot, he gets to win Rs. 20 million. He throws a party in the midst of which he proposes to Nafisa, his long-time girlfriend. With a wonderful life to look forward to, Rahul has everything he had ever dreamt of. Then, calamity strikes, he collapses on the floor, and learns that he has only 90 days to live.
Nagesh Kukunoor is a Hyderabad-based Indian film maker and screen writer. He is known for movies such as Hyderabad Blues (1998), 3 Deewarein (2003) and Iqbal (2005). His movie, 3 Deewarein won the Best Story Award at the 2003 Filmfare Awards.
Rang De was started on 26th January, 2008, with a motive and belief that peer-to-peer lending model could be leveraged to lower the cost of microcredit, and reach out to under-served communities. The long term goal is to provide a meaningful connect between the urban and rural population, and enabling individuals to make social investments of their time and money.
