When everything in your present looks like your past, it's time to, well, ruminate a lot. Here's an aged mother doing just that.

Nishumbita Ballet & Theatre Group is presenting a contemporary play The Mahabharatha Of Women, on 31st October, at Lamakaan. The play has been directed by Rammohan Holagundi and written by Dr. K Madhavane.

We are often propelled by the thoughts that are born from our childhood memories, stories and experiences. Sometimes we see trickles of our past flowing down the passage of our present; finding similarities in whatever we see, hear or understand. "The Mahabharata Of Women" aims to reflect this inherent human behaviour that drives into what we are, what we want to be and what becomes of us.

Dr. K Madhavane's play weaves the thoughts and the fear of an old mother dogged with the memory of a curse pursuing the descendants of her family. She is so obsessed with the curse that every incident of her street, and even the stories she had heard, now resemble the curse. Thus dawns a new facet of India's greatest epic drama the Mahabharata, the facet that brings forth The Women Of Mahabharata, or rather, The Mahabharata Of Women.

Rammohan Holagundi

Rammohan Holagundi, teacher, trainer and theatre director of Nishumbita & Koshish, is a gold medallist in theatre from the Central University of Hyderabad.
