The Union Ministry Of Textiles and Central Silk Of India, in association with Silk Mark India, are organising the Silk Mark Expo from 5th to 10th March, at Sri Sathya Sai Nigamagamam. Held twice a year and one of the most eargerly awaited exhibition by the ladies, the expo provides a platform for silk lovers who care for the aesthetic value of silk, to come and experience the most premium silks showcased by artisans hailing from far-flung weaving clusters of India.
There are about 45 stalls showcasing a wide range of Muga, Tussar, Banarasi, Venkatagiri, Gadwal, Kanjeevaram and many other varieties of silk here, including kora, matka and paper silk. There's also kantha, embroidered, woven, block printed, Madhubani and printed material silk fabric available here.
The stalls represent various states - Andhra Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Bihar, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, West Bengal and Orissa. Bihar has the highest representation, as it has several belts which depend entirely on silk for livelihood, like Madhuban and Bhagalpur.
The products are made available to the consumers with an assurance of purity and general quality under the Silk Mark label. On the other hand, upcoming silk manufacturers and traders, under the fold of Silk Mark, are provided with a marketing avenue to showcase and sell their products to clients in the urban markets. Silk Mark, too, is benefited, by way of increased visibility, educating silk consumers converging in large numbers, and a platform to interact with various stake holders of the silk industry.
