Editorial Review

Dance, music and grandeur will mark the theatre festival by the Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Foundation, as a part of which, the play Resham Ki Dor will be presented on 6th November, at Ravindra Bharati. The play will begin at 7:30pm.

The classic play Resham Ki Dor, one of the first teleplays of the 1970s era, was written by the late Qadir Ali Baig. The play will be presented under the guidance of his son Mohammad Ali Baig, replete with Kalbeliya dancers and live folk singers from the regions of Mewar, Jaisalmer and Jodhpur.

Resham Ki Dor is set in a time in Indian history when the region of Mewar (which is now Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Rajsamand and Udaipur) was rife with conflict. Queen Karmavati (played by Lakshmi Manchu) of Mewar, seeing no end to the conflicts tearing the region apart, decides to seek the help of Humayun by asking him to be her brother. This legend forms significant evidence of the Hindu custom of Raksha Bandhan.

Humayun is played by television actor Arif Zakaria, and Mohammad Ali Baig will don the role of the flamboyant Maharaja Vikramaditya. Local theatre veterans Shankar Melkote, Rashmi Seth, S A Majeed, and others play various roles in Resham Ki Dor. While M S Sathyu does the sets and lighting, the period costumes have been designed by Vinita Pittie.

The tickets are priced at Rs. 1,000, Rs. 500 and Rs. 100. Please contact theatrefoundation[at]cineworksindia[dot]com for further details.
