Cyclone Jal's Death Toll Put At 54

Lakhs of people have been affected by the floods, and relief measures are being taken up.

Chief Minister K Rosaiah, who reviewed the situation in the flood-hit areas, on Tuesday, asked district collectors to help arrange relief camps to the victims.

The collectors were also asked to draw funds under TR-27 and provide relief to the needy.

The death toll in the flood-hit areas has been put at 54. About 1,70,982 persons were evacuated, in 7 districts.

As many as 1,775 tanks were breached in 9 districts and 342 mandals, including 14 towns in 12 districts, and 7,88,377 people in 8 districts were affected by the floods.

Government figures say that as many as 29 mandals in Srikakulam, 34 in Vizianagaram, 43 in Visakhapatnam, 53 in East Godavari (including 9 towns), 46 in West Godavari, 40 in Krishna district (including 2 towns), 6 in Guntur, 11 in Prakasam (including 2 towns), 13 in Nellore, 18 in Chittoor, 13 in Kadapa (including one town) and 36 in Anantapur are being hit by the floods.

The government added that 355 medical camps were set up, in 5 districts.

About 12,820 houses were damaged, in 11 districts; and 2,01,666 houses were either submerged or marooned, in 6 districts.

Agriculture crops to the tune of 3,24,891 hectares, horticulture crops to the extent of 5,499 hectares and 45 acres of sericulture were affected.

Relief camps have already sheltered 82,353 persons. 235 relief camps have been set up in 7 districts. The number of food packets distributed has been put at 2,36,991, apart from 6,96,012 water packets in 5 districts.

Cattle loss in 14 districts was shown as 757 (big and small), and poultry 5,800.

A length of 1,219 km of 434 (PR) roads in 6 districts, and 1251.13 km (R and B) roads in 6 districts were damaged.

11,269 handloom pits were damaged in 2 districts, and the RWS scheme affected were 68 in 6 districts.

The state's average rainfall on Tuesday was 6.3 mm in 11 districts, according to Disaster Management Commissioner T Radha.
